Pablo
A young man swallowed whole by the Book, remade in flesh and fury for the Deadite horde.
Pablo is a young Latino man who becomes a Deadite in the Starz series *Ash vs Evil Dead*. He enters the franchise as one of the possessed antagonists that Ash Williams must confront, embodying the series' recurring theme of ordinary people corrupted by the Necronomicon's dark influence. His transformation from a living person into a flesh-twisting Deadite serves as a grim reminder of how quickly the Book of the Dead can consume a soul.
As a Deadite, Pablo is controlled by the same ancient demonic force that animates all members of the Deadite army. He shares the grotesque physical traits of his kind—elongated limbs, exposed musculature, and a snarling, inhuman visage—while retaining a sliver of his former identity in the way he moves and speaks. He is a combatant in the Deadite ranks, sent to hunt, maim, and drag victims back to the Book.

Lore & Background
In the mythology of the Evil Dead franchise, a Deadite is not a ghost or a spirit but a living human body hijacked and reshaped by an ancient demonic intelligence bound to the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. The transformation is violent and irreversible: the victim's bones crack and elongate, their skin splits to reveal raw sinew, and their eyes go flat and black. Pablo's origin follows this pattern—he was once a living, breathing person with a name, a face, a life, before the Book's power latched onto him and rewrote his biology into something that only *seemed* human.
As a member of the Deadite army, Pablo answers to the same collective will that drives every other Deadite: to serve the Book, to spread corruption, and to drag new victims into the cycle. He does not think, plan, or feel in any way a human would. His aggression is instinctive, his strength inhuman, and his coordination with other Deadites seamless, as though a single alien mind pilots a dozen bodies at once. In the broader lore, Deadites can only be truly destroyed by fire or by severing their limbs—their regenerative flesh makes them nearly impossible to kill by conventional means.
Pablo's presence in *Ash vs Evil Dead* fits the series' pattern of giving Deadite enemies a recognizable human face before the mask of the demon is torn away. The audience is meant to feel the horror of recognition: this was a person, a neighbor, a student, a friend, and now he is a thing that shrieks and claws and wants to rip you open. That duality—humanity stripped away in seconds—is the emotional core of every Deadite encounter in the franchise.
In Their Own Story
The parking lot behind the campus library smelled of wet asphalt and diesel. Pablo had been walking home from his shift, headphones in, earbuds bleeding lo-fi beats into his skull. Then the silence hit—not the absence of sound, but the *removal* of it, as if the air itself had been scooped out of the world. His phone screen cracked down the middle. His reflection in the darkened window of a sedan showed something that was not him: too tall, too thin, the jaw unhinged like a snake's. He opened his mouth to scream and what came out was a wet, clicking rasp that made the stray cat on the fence bolt into the dark. His fingers flexed. The nails were gone. In their place, four pale hooks curved and tested the air. He did not remember deciding to run. He did not remember deciding to *hunt*. By the time the campus security flashlight swept the lot, Pablo was already three blocks away, moving on all fours, grinning with a mouth full of too many teeth, and the lo-fi beat was still playing from the shattered phone in the gutter, tinny and indifferent.
